Validity range of Leisure Travelcard

I know that it's valid for a year. But for the sake of having a peaceful mind, I'd like it to be clarified when does a year starts? Is it on the day the Travelcard is first activated (which I presumed so)? Or is it on a calendar year basis?

Generally, a year long Travelcard can be activated any given day, from the current day until two months in the future.
