Swiss Travel Pass - would it also cover a train from Zurich to Innsbruck?

Hello, I'm an American visiting Switzerland later this month. I'll be there for nine different calendar days and will be buying the 8-day Swiss Travel Pass to cover all my transportation costs... this means that on either my arrival day or my departure day, I'll have to pay for trainfare out of pocket since the pass will be one day short of covering my entire stay.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether or not the Swiss Travel Pass would cover my departure journey from Zurich to Innsbruck, or if it is only valid for intra-Swiss travel. The train in question would be EC163 on a Friday. If my 8-day STP does not cover that fare, then I will know to activate the pass on my arrival day instead, and plan to pay for my EC163 fare out of pocket.

Hi @dbone

Thank you for your request.

The Swiss Travel Pass is only valid for Switzerland. If you go to Innsbruck, you have to pay a ticket from Buchs SG (Swiss border).
You can find more information here (Map of Validity).

I wish you a good afternoon.

Thank you Nicolas, that is very helpful! I was planning to have to buy the whole reserved ticket from Zurich for ~€80, but from Buchs to Innsbruck it appears to be only around half that price.
