Validity of 2nd class Swiss travel pass in Glacier express 1st class

If you have booked an online reservation for 1st class glacier express, I think you can upgrade it by paying a difference money. Get clarification from glacier express website.

You need a class upgrade for 1st class as well as a seat reservation in 1st class. You can buy the class upgrade for your Glacier Express journey online (www.sbb.ch/en), or via SBB Mobile app, or at any ticket counter.

Hi -n how does it work for a family pass. We are two adults and 2 children on swiss fmaily pass second class and wish to upgrade to first class on glacier express. The fare difference in 91 CHF for an adult. How much will the upgrade cost be for 2 adults and 2 children?

A Swiss Family Pass ticket does not exist. Do you mean Swiss Travel Pass with Swiss Family Card?

With the Swiss Travel Pass, as an adult, you will pay the half (1/2) of a full fare upgrade. Your children travelling with the Swiss Family Card will not need an upgrade, the Swiss Family Card is valid in the same class as the parent's ticket.

Thanks a lot Roland for your quick response. Yes - I meant Swiss travel pass with Swiss family card. I assume the same applies for golden pass express well. Four of us are eligible to travel in first class by paying half the fare difference for two adults and children only pay the reservation charges and no upgrade is required for them. Can we pay this on the train or is it advisable to make this payment at tue station prior to boarding the train?

I recommend buying the upgrade at the station, this way you are all set. The upgrade can be purchased at any travel center in Switzerland.

Exactly, the reservation is required by everyone; buy the reservation as soon as possible, the Golden Pass Express is very popular with tourists.

I had one more query. We plan to travel further up to Zurich after completing glacier express trip. I saw that there is an option for a day upgrade as well. If I buy a daily upgrade for that particular day, would that be valid on glacier express as well as other trains. The daily upgrade price is very similar to what it would cost on a point to point upgrade on glacier express.

Yes, you can also buy a day upgrade, it is valid on the Glacier Express as well as on any other train.

Just keep in mind, it will be a long travel day.
