Hello and welcome to the SBB Community. What would you like to do?
I plan on entering Switzerland at Chaisso this spring and will have a Swiss Travel Pass. I want to take a train from Chaisso to Zermatt. It looks like some current routes take you from Chaisso to Zurich and eventually to Zermatt. Some other routes take you to Milan and then to Zermatt (using an Italian train for part of the trip). The route through Milan is actually faster. Is the Swiss Travel Pass valid for the trains in Italy if you are starting in Switzerland and ending in Switzerland but pass through Italy during the trip (although a change in train would be needed in Italy)?
Hi @hwayhome
The fastest route is Milan-Brig-Zermatt. Check the timetable here: www.sbb.ch/en.
No, the SwissTravelPass is not giving free travel nor a reduction in Italy, with the exception:
When travelling from Milan to Zermatt via Brig, you must have a ticket from Milan to Domodossola. From there, your STP is covering the rest of your trip.
TripAdvisor Switzerland forum or MySwissAlps provide both excellent travel forums where you get further help on planning your Switzerland vacation.
Best regards,
Roland

Hello @hwayhome
Thank you for your query.
There are different routes how to get from Chiasso to Zermatt. It is best to check the scope here. You can find it under the following link: https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/inspiration/international-guests/swiss-travel under "More on the topic".
I wish yiou a nice day.
Kind regards, AferditaH
