Hello and welcome to the SBB Community. What would you like to do?
Hi Everyone,
I'm planning to visit Zermatt with my family in July,2023. Our flight will arrive to Basel Airport and we are planning to buy an 8 days Swiss Travel Pass. I would have two questions about it:
1) Can I just simply get on any of the trains from Basel to Zermatt or do I need to buy any additional ticket (for 2nd class)?
2) I would like to go to Matterhorn Glacier Paradise using my Swiss Travel Pass. On Order your individual tickets to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (matterhornparadise.ch) website I can see the below notification:
"Please note that discounted tickets are exclusively available with a valid SBB half-fare/GA travelcard and must be charged onto the SwissPass card. Please carry the SwissPass card with you (mobile SwissPass is not possible)."
Based on that, should I request a SwissPass card in physical format? If so, how can I do that?
Could you please advise on the above?
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards,
Mátyás
Hello @Matyas1 ,
With your Swiss Travel Pass you can travel from Basel to Zermatt with any train you would like to use. (You can refer to this PDF GA area 2023 , Red line represent trains, yellow ones for buses, black one for funicular, cable cars, and blue ones for boats. You can use all the services if the Lines are not dotted, dotted lines means this route is not covered, you may have a discount in this case)
You will not be able to request for a SwissPass card, it is reserved for locals who purchased a GA subscription or half fare subscription, not for the passes or half fare cards intended for tourists.) From the Matterhorn funicular website, your Swiss travel pass will give you a 50% discount. (https://www.matterhornparadise.ch/en/Information/Tickets-prices/Single-and-return-tickets-all-year- , you can find it in the section for reduction)
In short, you can prebook your ticket in voucher format and print it at home or save the paper and show the PDF at the gate.
@pandutv Thank you very much for your help! 🙂
