Swiss Half Fare Card

SOLVED
DannyR
Traveller

Hi,

I will be travelling to Switzerland coming from Australia in April 2023. Can I use the Swiss Half Fare Card by itself, without the need of buying a Swiss Travel Pass? Thank you

Hello @DannyR

Happy to read you will visit us next year.

No, the Swiss Half Fare Card is not a pass, it entitles you to buy reduced tickets, so-called half fare tickets indicated as 1/2; hence, it is not granting any free travel.

When buying tickets (e.g. on www.sbb.ch/en), there is the option of half fare (1/2) and full fare (1/1) tickets. With the Swiss Half Fare Card you simply select the 1/2 fare. The Swiss Half Fare Card is also granting reduced tickets on many mountain excursions. And, if you have got children, you can ask for the complimentary Swiss Family Card which is offered for free when at least one parent is in the possession of a Swiss Half Fare Card or a Swiss Travel Pass.

Here is a link which contains all information on the Swiss Half Fare Card: https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/inspiration/international-guests/swiss-halffare-card.html

Kind regards,
Roland
