Hi,

I have 4 direct IC tickets for 2nd class Zurich-Lugano but just realized the seats are not reserved upon receiving the tickets. Can I make seat reservation ahead of time or modify the purchase to reserve seats?

thank you!

Hello @nnnfffmmm

In Switzerland, train tickets do not include seat assignments as regular tickets are valid on any connection.

The seat reservation is a separate optional task and can be done here, no proof of a valid ticket is needed: SBB: Ticket Shop

Kindly note, seat reservations are only possible on IC, EC, ICE, RJX and TGV trains.

Best regards,
Roland

Hello @WadedJ

Because it is difficult to estimate when your plane will land, it is also impossible to predict which train you will travel on.

If you insist on reserving a seat, I recommend you choose a connection that departs several hours after the scheduled landing.

Reserving a seat after your landing in Switzerland no longer makes sense.

In principle, you can expect to find 3 free seats even without a reservation, but we cannot guarantee this.

Hope I could help you with this information.

Have an awesome weekend.

Kind regards, RahelW

Sorry I should have explained that my enquiry relates to train from Zurich to St Anton am Arlberg in Austria. Seat selection is possible but not mandatory. I think I should pay for seat selection (because I am travelling with my two children) to make sure I can get seats but I just don't exactly which train we will be on (depending on our flight arrival time). Hence why I am trying to figure out how I buy a seat selection on the day once I know which train I am on. I would like to avopid the delay of going to the SBB ticket office at Zurich Airport. I will have bought and printed the standard ticket (without seat) before I arrive in Zurich.

Hi RolandP

I wish to buy a standard fare ticket without seat selection (because I am not yet sure exactly which train I will board that day - depends on my flight arrival time at Zurich Airport - and so I don't want to pay for seat selection yet because it is specific for exact train departure time). So can I pay for the seat selection on the mobile app once I am aboard the train already? I will have the original printed standard ticket without seat selection but will not be able to reprint the ticket showing the seat selection. Or should I not worry about seat selection and just find whatever seat is available?
