Glacier Express with Saver Day Pass

SOLVED

HI!

We are traveling in Swiss in September.

We already reserved seats of Glacier Express.

We'll have a half-fare card during the period and bought Saver Day Pass at CHF 66 each on SBB website.

Is this the only cost we pay for the train from Zermatt to St. Maritts since we already paid for the seats?

I thought it may be too cheap for the long distance and am worried that I may have bought wrong tickets.

Yes! You will only need your seat reservation and saver day pass, if you purchased the "reduced price" saver day pass which requires a 1/2 fare card you will also need the 1/2 fare card.

You can ride the same route as the Glacier Express with no extra reservation supplement by taking regional trains, but making changes in Disentis, Andermatt and Brig/Visp--you don't have to plan (and reserve) days/weeks in advance.

Hello @Janarth9

As mentioned above, you do not need any additional ticket for your trip with the Glacier Express. All you need is a seat reservation which you can do here.

I wish you an excellent day.

Kind regards, RahelW

Hello @minaco

If you're owning a Saver Day Pass for the same date as your Glacier Express reservations you don't need any additional ticket. The stretch is fully covered by the Saver Day Pass.

Have a nice journey

Greetings,ValerieS

Hi,

I have a Saver day Pass, However This option is not available on the Glacier Express Reductions. Please advise which one to choose?

Hi,

Could you find which option you chose? The Saver Day Pass is not available when I try to make the seat reservation.

Hello @pamdavid

You can buy the Saver Day Pass and the seat reservation in two steps.

The Saver Day Pass is available here and the seat reservation for glacier express can be made here.

I wish you a nice day.
Kind regards, LeaG

Dear ValerieS.

Your answer is exactly what I wanted to know.

I'm looking forward to visiting Swiss soon 🙂

Hi Minaco,

I have the same question with yours, may I know is it true that I only need to show my seat reservation ticket + Saver Day Pass to the train staff for whole journey from Zermatt to St. Moritz? No other ticket is required?

Yes! You will only need your seat reservation and saver day pass, if you purchased the "reduced price" saver day pass which requires a 1/2 fare card you will also need the 1/2 fare card.

Thanks, nrr1

Pls help clarify below:

If I purchased a 1/2 fare card and registered a free children pass, and also a saver day pass for glacier express, pls advise whether my child is free for travel with me or I need to purchase some kind of children or junior pass for her.

Hello @cfhk

Thank you for your question.

Yes, with the monthly half fare card, children aged between 6 and 16 years can travel free od charge with the Swiss Family Card.

On the following link you will find the map of validity: https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/travel-in-switzerland/international-guests/swiss-halffare-car....

I wish you a nice day.

Kind regards.

Thanks!

Hello, I have a similar question. When you mentioned 1/2 fare card for using together with the Saver Day Pass, is it Swiss Half Fare Card (1 month) or Half-Fare Travelcard (1 year)? Or both can be used? I have difficulty to buy the 1 year card as I am not the resident in Switzerland.

Please can you give me some advice? Thank you.

I purchased my 1 year 1/2 fare card and signed up for a Swiss Pass at SBB in Zurich Flughafen, a few years ago. Due to Covid I didn't renew in 2020. I was in Switz. in August 2021 and renewed my 1/2 fare card. I am NOT a resident of Switz.

From past experience you don't need a 1/2 fare card to make ticket purchases (like Saver Day Cards), you need it when you show your documents to the ticket agent on the traun, I think a 1 month 1/2 fare card should work.

I think you mean St. MORITZ (?). The Glacier Express requires a reservation fee in addition to your ticket. Search for Glacier Express Reservation, Sept. is still considered "high" season, so the reservation fee is higher, the earlier you reserve the better your chance of finding seats.

But, you can ride the same route on "normal" trains without any reservation fee, you will have to change trains in Brig, Andermatt and Diesentis.

Dear nrr1

Yes, I mis-spelled it.
I meant St. Moritz.

My concern is already cleared already.
Thank you.
