Book a seat with a saver day pass

SOLVED

If I buy a saver day pass, do I need to book a seat? Or can I just get on the train and sit in a random seat?
And I see that some trains, such as EC trains, require a Mandatory Place Reservation. Do I need to reserve a seat even if I have a saver day pass? If so, how do I reserve a seat and how do I pay for it?
