Tourist: Point-to-point query and children (6-16) query

We are tourists and I have a question specific to point-point tickets and children (6-16) travel. We are a family of 2 adults and 4 children (6-16).

  • If I buy 2 adult point-to-point tickets from Montreux to Interlaken OST (CHF53/adult), do I need to buy 4 more point-to-point tickets for the children? I cant find that selection on the SBB app
  • Instead, I can only find Day Pass Children in the app. Do I have to purchase this instead (CHF19/child)?

Hello @garrett09

Yes, children from 6-16 do also need a ticket; they require either a half fare (1/2) ticket or a children day pass, what ever is less costly.

If you do more travels in Switzerland, you could buy the Junior Cards for each of your child. You pay for two Junior Cards, the 3rd and 4th card is free. The Junior Card costs CHF 30 each, is valid a year and with it, children travel for free if accompanied by one parent at least. The parent must hold a valid ticket. You can buy the Junior Cards at the station only. Junior Travelcard | SBB

If you have in addition the Swiss Half Fare Card for the adults, the Junior Card, or then called Swiss Family Card, comes for free, for all children.

Best regards,
Roland

Thanks for the reply. So to get my understanding right,

1) The junior card is also applicable for tourists?

2) The card membership will be physically issued at the counter?

3) For documentation, I can bring the parent and children passports to purchase? However, the passport details doesn’t show the relationship between parents and children. but the surname of the father and children is the same.

Separate question: Can I get the junior travel card upon landing at Geneva airport? Is there a service counter there?
