I bought a train ticket from Zürich to Italy online on the website. It clearly stated that I need to print it. But now it's also shown in the SBB app. Is the app version sufficient or do I need to go and print it?

Even though it is displayed in the SBB Mobile App, for international journeys you are required to have a hard copy with you.
The QR code displayed on the SBB Mobile App is primarily for the ticket inspection in Switzerland.
