Easyride can't determine location in android

I have an iPhone for work and an android Samsung Galaxy S9. On the android, I start easyride and it identifies my departure point but I then get alerts that the app can't find my location. The alerts sometimes dissappear on their own.. But then reappear. I'm not an expert but I see in settings there is no option to give the app location permission "always" but only when the app is open. Could it be related? Note i used the app on this phone in the past so this is a recent regression

The latest Android updates contain various mechanisms that prevent SBB Mobile from obtaining location data. Therefore, recording and completion may not be possible for some trips.
