Why are trains from Geneva Airport to Valais so bad?

I'm wondering why nearly all the trains in swizerland are just amazing.... except the ones that go to Valais from geneva airport! Valais is one of the biggest tourist destinations in switzerland and you can get directly to many of the ski areas. But...the train is lousy! Really old, overcrowded, hot, slow and has no restaurant/bar. If a visitor gets on the train at geneva airport, they have 2-3 hours ahead of them with no refreshments/food (and don't tell me there is a little refreshment cart - there rarely is!). It's a really terrible introduction to swiss trains for tourists - why can't you offer the same services as IC (kids wagons, restaurant, bike wagons, panorama wagons etc...all the great things about swiss trains)..it might encourage more people to take the train than drive and might also help swiss tourism (it desperately needs it!).

Hi @flowersui

There’s one point: the railway line between Lausanne and Brig is not yet ready for double-decker-trains. Construction work to accommodate those trains is under way and should be finished by 2018. So that’s one reason, why there’s still “older” rolling stock on this part of Switzerland’s Railway Network. I don't agree it's only about the double deckers issue. Every single train going to Valais seems to be much older and has an issue of some sort. Indeed, the AC is always broken, the heating system also, the toilets also and the wagons are really dirty. it really seems like the CFF/SBB has an issue with Valais. Maybe it stems from the deep contempt some swiss germans have to the people from Wallis.

I agree totally with Ade - there are beautiful single decker trains running elsewhere in switzerland (between bern and lucerne for example)...why not to Valais?
