SBB travel pass or Swiss half fare card?

KoolM1

Hello everyone,,

My family and I are going to be traveling to Switzerland for 8 days. We plan on travelling completely by public transport, and use the trains as much as possible.

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 minors and are wondering, what would be more affordable? The SBB travel pass or the Swiss half pass? We are going to be staying at Interlaken, and travel around the country from there.

Also is it advisable to learn basic German?

Thanks in advance 😄

Hello @KoolM1

Thank you for your request.

Depending on what kind of travels you are planning, the Swiss Travel Pass or the Swiss Half Fare Card is more suitable.

The Swiss Travel Pass includes all the trains, trams, boats and busses in Switzerland. Only a few Mountain Trains are not included, like the train up to the Jungfraujoch.

With the Swiss Half fare Card you get a 50% discount of all the travels with the public transportation.

In both offers a Swiss Family card free of charge can be booked as well for the children.

All information about the two offers you will find under the following link: https://www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/travel-in-switzerland/international-guests.html.
